I use essential oils because I care about my health. I use essential oils because I think using natural solutions is usually better than using artificial drugs with side effects. But, just because I use essential oils doesn’t mean that I don’t think doctors are important. On the contrary, I think doctors have a very important place in our society. We need doctors when we get sick and our oils just aren’t enough. Yes, it’s true, oils are very powerful. But everything in moderation. Not all things are curable with oils. Sometimes, you just need the extra support of your doctor. And oils can be dangerous! They are very potent (some medicines are in fact made from concentrated plant material as well. So yes, some essential oils have a similar effect as pharmaceutical drugs. If you have found a doctor who also understands the potency of essential oils, then you have found a gem. Keep him or her and give him or her a shout out!
Well, I recently stumbled on a company I had never heard of before. It’s called HealthTap. I checked them out and it looks like a very promising company. It’s a company that’s been featured in Wired, Wall Street Journal, NBC, Forbes, ABC, and the New York Times.
What I liked most about HealthTap is their video chat feature you can use to talk directly with your doctor. This works only if your doctor also subscribes to HealthTap. The good news is that more and more doctors are actually including video chat as an option with their service (107,000 and counting). You do have to pay for a video chat with your doctor though.
But, there is a free side to HealthTap. And that is the many questions that have already been answered by real doctors. As a free member, you get limited access to their rich database of questions and answers. And as a paid Prime member, you get unlimited access to this database. And you get access to an artificial doctor who can help direct you to the right answer based on your symptoms. So, I can see this service being used by those who are self-insured and those who want to take their health into their own hands.
And yes, they do have an app you can download for your Android or Apple phone. This way, you can access their database anytime and anywhere you are. This is great when you are on vacation and somebody gets sick. If you’re already using WebMD, then you can view this as an alternative with the perk of being able to read answers from actual doctors. And plus, you can ask your own questions as well.
Please refer to this dilution chart when diluting your essential oils. It is recommended that you dilute any essential oil that you use regardless of brand. Essential oils are strong and very potent and many can and do cause skin sensitivity, especially with children.
Plant Therapy has this awesome dilution chart you can reference.
For babies, dilute at 0.5% or even 0.25% (half of the 0.5% amount. So, use 3 drops of your essential oil and dilute it in 4 teaspoons of carrier oil for 0.5% or 8 teaspoons of carrier oil for 0.25%.
Use the 1% dilution ratio for daily use. Mix 3 essential oil drops for every 2 teaspoons of carrier oil.
If you need a stronger dose for a short period of time, use the 5% dilution ratio by adding 15 essential oil drops for every 2 teaspoons of carrier oil.
For really, really severe situations, you can up it to 10 percent dilution ratio for small acute areas of concern. For this, you would mix 15 essential oil drops for every teaspoon of carrier oil.
Recommended Essential Oil Brands
Because essential oils have therapeutic properties that make them so useful in our lives, you want to make sure that the essential oils you purchase are pure and contain all of the healing components that you are looking for. Unfortunately, there are some unscrupulous companies out there that sell diluted oils or even fake oils that will do you harm if you use them for therapeutic purposes.
The companies that I recommend and who consistently receive positive reviews on their essential oils are these:
